Professional Engagement
As a professional, I aim to continue to develop myself as a teacher. My professional placements have been invaluable
to my development as a teacher and have taught me the importance of
organisation, time management, flexibility, patience and also the value of
being a good listener. I am able to multitask and prioritise my workload and
believe I would thrive in a team environment. I enjoy interacting with every
individual in the school community and I pride myself on my ability to forge
positive relationships with parents, teachers and students alike. I consider
myself to be a life-long learner and I take much pride in being entrusted the
task of educating children for their future.
I frequently reflect upon myself as a teacher and my teaching practices. I constantly review my weaknesses and negotiate better ways to approach my lessons when things don't go according to plan. As a graduate teacher, I am still "finding my feet" as it were, and I understand that I have a lot to learn. I look foward to learning with my students on an exciting reciprocal journey.
Throughout my teaching placements, I have participated in and contributed to many different school activities such as:
- Attending and supervising an excursion to the Tooradin Foreshore with the Prep class I completed my AP with.
- Running lunchtime activities and acting as a supervisor for various lunchtime clubs at Tooradin Primary School during my AP
- Attending, supervising and monitoring student behaviour at class incursions (Murrindindi)
- Attending school camps as a pre-service teacher
-Devon Meadows Primary School Grade ¾ Camp to Phillip Island (2009)
- Tooradin Primary School Grade 5/6 Camp to Forest Lodge (2010)
-Attending staff meetings, level meetings and planning days
My identity has come a long way over the past four years, and it will probably continute to grow and evolve for the next forty. I do not profess to know everything, and I've picked one of the few occupations where I never will be able to claim to know everything. This does not fill me with fear- instead this fills me with passion, drive and desire to better myself as a teacher so I can better my students not only as learners, but as people, as my primary school teachers did for me.
